The House of Gilles made its debut at Lincoln Center’s Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse on Thursday, September 5th, with the presentation of Collection 02. Founded by the acclaimed Gilles Mendel and his daughter Chloé Mendel Corgan, the house brings together expertise and fresh innovation in haute couture. With their shared vision, Gilles and Chloé are reshaping the approach to high fashion by blending craftsmanship with creative exploration, offering something truly unique.
Collection 02 emerged through close collaboration with long-time partners, capturing a shared artistic vision. Photographer Ruven Afanador and the brand’s muse, Christina Kruse, played an essential role in bringing this vision to life through a stunning photoshoot. The collection draws on the elegance of European couture while embracing the modern energy of New York City.
Drawing inspiration from ballet, the collection incorporates elements of corsetry, originally designed for the NYC Ballet. This influence is reflected in the way the garments create both shape and fluidity, transforming traditional corset styles into new forms. The collection’s palette focuses on black and white, with carefully considered design details that create an understated sense of drama and grace, ensuring each piece stands out while maintaining its sense of refinement.
In addition to its ready-to-wear collection, the House of Gilles introduces the exclusive “Made to Order” (MTO) collection. This offering allows clients to personalize their garments, with production timelines spanning 6-12 weeks to ensure careful attention to detail. The MTO collection provides the opportunity to select specific colors and finishes, making each garment a tailored experience for the client. Every piece is crafted with the precision that the House of Gilles is known for.
The House emphasizes its personal approach to service, setting it apart from other fashion houses. With a focus on collaboration, Gilles and Chloé work directly with clients throughout the entire design process, ensuring that each piece is created to suit their needs. This bespoke service extends to their bridal couture, where the House has become a go-to destination for brides looking for a gown as distinctive as their vision. The process is intimate, with every detail designed to reflect the bride’s unique story.
Collection 02 showcases a commitment to craftsmanship and artistic expression, while offering a deeply personal experience for each client. From the design table to the final fitting, every garment is crafted with intention, ensuring that it reflects the unique preferences and tastes of those who wear it. The debut of Collection 02 confirms the House of Gilles as a leader in contemporary couture, offering more than just garments, but a highly personalized experience.
