From October 18 to 20, the fair welcomed more than 65,000 visitors, drawing art patrons, collectors, and cultural figures from around the globe. Exhibitors celebrated strong sales and a vibrant atmosphere, placing works by influential artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Julie Mehretu, Willem de Kooning, Olga de Amaral, Camille Henrot, and Lungiswa Gqunta in esteemed public and private collections. This year’s event introduced Premise, a new sector dedicated to curated proposals featuring nine galleries, and Emergence, a platform highlighting 16 exhibitors representing rising talents in the art world. The success of these sectors reflects Art Basel’s dedication to nurturing both established and new artistic voices.
The ambitious Public Program unfolded across ten renowned locations throughout Paris, underscoring the fair’s deep connection with the city’s cultural heritage. Miu Miu, the official partner of the program, strengthened Art Basel’s cross-disciplinary reach, fostering bridges between visual arts and other creative industries.
This year’s attendees included art patrons, collectors, and representatives from over 220 leading museums and foundations, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Centre Pompidou, Tate London, MoMA New York, and Fondation Beyeler. The presence of prominent figures such as French President Emmanuel Macron, First Lady Brigitte Macron, and Culture Minister Rachida Dati further emphasized the significance of the event for the country’s cultural landscape.
The second iteration of the Art Basel Shop, curated by Sarah Andelman, delighted visitors with unique programming and exclusive products. Featured items included the AB by Artist apparel and accessories line from the artist collective Claire Fontaine, alongside collaborative offerings from Guerlain, Uniqlo x Musée du Louvre, Lafayette Anticipations, Parley for the Oceans, and Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.
In partnership with Galeries Lafayette, artist Steffani Jemison was awarded a residency at Lafayette Anticipations – Fondation Galeries Lafayette. Jemison, represented by Madragoa (Lisbon), will develop a new work in 2025, with Madragoa receiving full reimbursement of their participation fee as part of the initiative.
Reflecting on the successful conclusion of the event, Art Basel Paris Director Clément Delépine remarked, “‘We worked on Art Basel Paris’ 2024 edition for over two years; seeing it come to life in such an extraordinary way in the heart of Paris has felt truly special. Our galleries, partners, collectors, and visitors have all contributed to the undeniable enthusiasm we have witnessed across the city, and I am immensely grateful for their support”
The resounding success of this inaugural edition at the Grand Palais sets the stage for the 2025 Art Basel Paris, scheduled to take place from October 24 to 26. The anticipation for next year’s event is already building as Art Basel Paris continues to establish itself as a cornerstone of cultural exchange and artistic innovation in the heart of Paris.
