Rooted in the narrative of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the performance reimagines Ophelia’s transition from the physical world to a dream-like, ethereal state. The artists designed a surreal set, referred to as a “dream machine,” incorporating a bed, an aquarium, and a crane to reflect themes of deconstructionism central to the play. Filmed in August 2024, the performance stars Marie Bourgeois and takes place within the historic gardens of Château du Clos Lucé, evoking a sense of both elegance and melancholy.
Yoann Bourgeois, born in 1981, is known for combining blending dance, theatre, circus arts, and visual installations. With formal training at the Centre National des Arts du Cirque and the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine, he established the Yoann Bourgeois Art Company in 2010. His groundbreaking work includes taking over the iconic Fort de la Bastille with Cavale and performing at renowned venues such as The Pantheon, the Göteborg Opera, and Biennale de la Danse. Recognized globally, Bourgeois has collaborated with artists such as FKA Twigs and Harry Styles, earning a nomination for Best Choreographer at the MTV Music Awards for As It Was.
The campaign’s performances serve as an artistic extension of David Koma’s aesthetic vision, merging his fashion offerings with Bourgeois’ poetic choreography. The video series highlights key pieces from Koma’s latest collection, including The DK City – a structured leather flap logo bag, and The Apex – a clutch with a metallic sculptural design reminiscent of a fin. These elegant handbags are accompanied by a range of footwear, from statement thigh-high and knee-high boots with branded metal toe caps to classic sling-back pumps in vibrant colors and luxurious materials.
Bourgeois’ fluid choreography brings life to the accessories, transforming them into symbols of movement and expression. Each piece is not just displayed but becomes an integral part of the performance, reinforcing the idea that fashion, like art, is about storytelling. By collaborating with a multidisciplinary artist of Bourgeois’ caliber, David Koma not only emphasizes the artistic quality of his collection but also pushes the boundaries of digital fashion campaigns.
