Netflix has officially announced the release date for its upcoming epic, The Electric State, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the acclaimed filmmakers behind Avengers: Endgame. The film, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, will debut on March 14, 2025, promising a spectacular retro-futuristic adventure based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag.
Set in an alternate version of the 1990s, The Electric State follows Michelle (Brown), a teenage orphan navigating a world where sentient robots—once integrated peacefully into human society—now live in exile after a failed uprising. Michelle’s journey takes a surprising turn when she encounters Cosmo, a mysterious robot controlled by her genius younger brother, Christopher, whom she believed to be dead. Determined to reunite with Christopher, Michelle embarks on a daring quest across the American southwest, joined by Keats (Pratt), a rogue smuggler, and his witty robot companion Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie).
As the trio ventures into the Exclusion Zone, a vibrant yet dangerous haven for rogue animatronics, they uncover dark truths behind Christopher’s disappearance. Along the way, Michelle and her allies encounter an array of eclectic robotic companions, adding both humor and heart to their journey.
The star-studded cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. In addition to Mackie, the film features the vocal talents of Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Alan Tudyk, and more, bringing life to the robots that populate this colorful, dystopian world.
Written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the screenplay brings Stålenhag’s graphic novel to life with a blend of emotional depth and thrilling adventure. The project is produced by Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, and others, with Barbara and Anthony Muschietti also serving as executive producers.
Mark your calendars for March 14, 2025, when The Electric State makes its Netflix debut.
