Louis Vuitton SS25 collection, presented at the iconic Cour Carrée du Louvre in Paris, captures the essence of contrast—a central theme that runs throughout the show. Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière reimagines French fashion as a form of “sartorial soft power,” merging seemingly contradictory elements to craft an expressive, multifaceted collection. The venue itself, a historic landmark in French culture, provided an apt setting for the brand’s latest exploration of fashion as an art form—paying homage to tradition while leaning into the future.

The collection was marked by its exploration of contrasts: softness against power, structure versus fluidity, and ethereal lightness matched by a certain sharpness. Ghesquière’s designs thrive on these contradictions, generating a sense of constant movement and energy throughout the runway. With motifs such as “spidery depths” and “razor-sharp delicacy,” the collection oscillates between extremes, delivering a dynamic narrative that captures the audience’s imagination.

This season, Ghesquière also collaborated with artist Laurent Grasso, incorporating imagery from Grasso’s series, “Studies into the Past,” onto selected pieces.  The result was an interplay of wearable pieces that not only served as clothing but also as canvases, showcasing intricate visual storytelling that aligned with the collection’s broader theme of merging opposites.

The musical backdrop, composed of tracks from Jamie XX’s new album, “In Waves,” set the tone for the runway, infusing the presentation with an air of innovation. The rhythmic beats complemented the visual contrasts of the collection, adding a layer of sonic depth to the experience. Ghesquière’s designs felt like a conversation between past and present, with 80s-inspired prints making a bold entrance and vibrant volumes marking the opening looks.

Signature tailoring also played a significant role in the collection, often juxtaposed with feminine fluidity that conveyed a sense of paradoxical sensibility. Structured jackets were paired with flowing skirts, while voluminous sleeves contrasted with fitted silhouettes, further exploring the harmony that arises from opposing elements. The embroidered detailing on many of the pieces added a layer of opulence that balanced the collection’s minimalist undertones, creating a visual feast that was both elegant and bold.

Louis Vuitton SS25 collectionwas a showcase of French fashion’s ongoing influence, radiating a cultural singularity that speaks to the Maison’s heritage while embracing the future. With its play on volume, detail, and juxtaposition, the collection invited viewers to rethink the possibilities of fashion—delivering not just clothing, but an experience rooted in contrast and innovation.
