At the “City of Genius” show in Shanghai on October 19, 2024, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler took their ongoing collaboration to the next level with the unveiling of “Project G-Class Past II Future.” This one-off art piece, conceptualized by designer and creative director NIGO, serves as the inspiration for a limited-edition G-Class model and capsule fashion collection, inspired by the 1990s.

The art piece reinterprets a 1990s G-Class with intricate design elements both inside and out, fusing Moncler’s signature quilted style with hallmark G-Class features. The exterior presents a two-tone palette of olive green and grey, accented with black and gold detailing, while the interior includes bespoke additions such as audio installations by Devon Turnbull and checked upholstery inspired by classic G-Class models.
In parallel with the art piece, Mercedes-Benz announced the limited-edition “G-Class Past II Future” series, set for release in April 2025. Only 20 units will be produced, featuring the signature aesthetics of the art piece, such as black steel wheels, green and grey paintwork, and collaborative branding throughout. The limited run also includes exclusive design elements like a gold-colored fuel can, a nod to the collection’s vintage influence. The models, based on the latest G 450 d and G 500 engines, will retain the rugged elegance and high performance that define the G-Class.
The Shanghai show also gave attendees a preview of the upcoming capsule collection co-created by Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and NIGO. Designed with gender-neutral appeal, the collection captures a blend of 90s streetwear and modern urban influences. It includes an array of lightweight jackets, hoodies, checked shirts, and windbreakers in classic shades of blue, green, and black with orange accents. Special pieces feature archival prints from both brands, emphasizing the collaborative spirit behind the collection.
As part of the campaign “Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past,” Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and NIGO explore the enduring connection between past and future. The campaign, captured by photographer Thibaut Grevet, visualizes this evolution through a rooftop setting with angular metallic surfaces, perfectly complementing the urban feel of the streetwear collection.
With this collaboration, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler celebrate their ability to merge their distinct heritages into a forward-thinking experience. The limited-edition G-Class and fashion capsule collection, both debuting in April 2025, underscore the innovation and cultural relevance that define the partnership. As NIGO reflects, “The 90s were among the most influential decades creatively, and with this collaboration, we reinterpret that legacy for a new era.”
