Fashion house Zimmermann presents its Resort 2025 collection, channeling the spirit of 80s cinema, fusing iconic film references with contemporary fashion for a vibrant, nostalgic twist. Creative Director Nicky Zimmermann draws inspiration from coming-of-age classics such as The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, embracing the playful style of the era while infusing it with modern tailoring and intricate detailing. This collection captures the essence of youthful experimentation, blending whimsical elements with elevated craftsmanship.
The collection explores a blend of feminine softness and masculine edge. Lace biker shorts paired with oversized pirate shirts evoke a rebellious yet romantic mood, setting the tone for a lineup that celebrates individuality. The collegiate influence is apparent in dark denim varsity jackets and playful dresses, while biker-inspired outerwear adds a touch of attitude. Exaggerated shoulders, oversized blazers, and square-cut coats reflect the cinematic style of the 80s, adding structure to the more whimsical designs throughout the collection.
Engineered lace motifs feature charms and symbols like cassette tapes, lipstick, and lockets, evoking teenage diaries filled with musings about crushes and dreams. These playful elements appear across key pieces, from casual tees with embellished necklines to flirty skirts, reinforcing the collection’s carefree vibe. Painterly floral prints and dirty pastels add a softer, more romantic feel to floaty maxi dresses and tiered lace designs, balancing playful nostalgia with elegant craftsmanship.
A recurring theme throughout the collection is the playful reinterpretation of prom style. Corseted leopard-print dresses, sculptural peplums, and exaggerated hand-draped shoulders offer a modern take on partywear. These pieces are styled with unexpected combinations – sneakers, brogues, and oversized earrings – making them appropriate for both daytime and evening. Meanwhile, delicate touches like velvet ribbons, scalloped edges, and diamante accents enhance the whimsical feel.
Outerwear grounds the collection’s more extravagant pieces. Technical trenches, jacquard coats, and leather jackets offer a contemporary edge, layered over bralettes, bustiers, and pretty minis to create a playful tension between structure and softness. Denim staples, from high-waisted jeans to faded washes, provide a versatile foundation for mixing and matching, ensuring the collection remains wearable and approachable.
The collection’s craftsmanship shines in its eveningwear, particularly in the construction of floating strapless gowns and tuxedo-inspired dresses. Whether through sculptural silhouettes or understated classics in black and white, the collection offers timeless options without sacrificing creativity.
