London-based fashion brand self-portrait has teased the launch of its inaugural Residency collection, which will be available in stores and online from 8 PM GMT tonight. The self-portrait Residency is a new initiative by the brand that aims to foster collaboration and creativity within the fashion industry by inviting different artists to work from their headquarters. For its first Residency, self-portrait has collaborated with none other than Christopher Kane, a designer known for his innovative approach to fashion.

The campaign images feature Kane’s longtime supporter Carine Roitfeld, who was shot at her home in Paris by photographer Larissa Hofmann. The full campaign, featuring a wider cast, will be released next week, offering a more comprehensive look at Kane’s unique reinterpretations.
The Residency collection reimagines key elements from Kane’s Spring/Summer 2007 debut collection, including signature textures like crystal chainmail, soft lace ruffles, and satin dresses. The designs incorporate bias cuts and intricate lace panels, blending Kane’s distinctive aesthetic with the creative vision of self-portrait.
To celebrate the launch, self-portrait founder Han Chong and Christopher Kane will host an event tonight at Alva Coachworks in London. Guests will be immersed in a live campaign shoot for the collection, allowing them to witness the creative process up close. The event promises an unexpected and real-life setting as the collection comes to life and begins to make its way into stores and online.
The self-portrait Residency program is an evolving initiative envisioned by Han Chong, aiming to invite creatives from diverse backgrounds to design from the brand’s London headquarters. By inviting artists like Christopher Kane, self-portrait is setting the stage for dynamic and inspiring partnerships that push the boundaries of fashion.
Christopher Kane expressed his gratitude for being the first Resident, saying, “It has been a joy to work with Han on the brand’s first self-portrait Residency. The entire process has been an extraordinary experience, made possible by Han and his wonderful teams. I am delighted to have reincarnated my archival collections for this inaugural project, and who better to unveil our new collection than Carine Roitfeld; a big champion since my first collections, and a true fashion icon. I will be forever grateful for her continued support.” Kane’s heartfelt words highlight the collaborative spirit and shared passion that underpins the Residency project, making it a momentous launch for both him and self-portrait.
