Peter Do will leave his position as creative director at Helmut Lang at the end of November, the brand announced Thursday. Do, who joined Helmut Lang in March 2023, aimed to reinvigorate the brand, which was established in 1986 by designer Helmut Lang but has struggled to maintain its cultural relevance since Lang’s departure in 2005.

Do’s debut collection for Helmut Lang in September 2023 was eagerly anticipated, marking a significant moment for the brand. While the collection received mixed reviews, Do’s work reflected his commitment to capturing Lang’s avant-garde ethos while pushing boundaries in contemporary design.
In a statement, Do expressed gratitude to his team, describing his tenure as “an opportunity of a lifetime” and acknowledging the collective effort that went into bringing his creative vision to life. “I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team, who have been integral in supporting my vision. It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang,” he said the announcement. Throughout his time with Helmut Lang, Do simultaneously managed his own eponymous label, which he founded in 2018.
This year has seen significant movement in creative leadership across the fashion industry. Kim Jones recently stepped down from his role at Fendi, and new creative directors have already been appointed at Blumarine, Calvin Klein, and Sergio Rossi, each poised to bring a renewed vision to these storied brands. Peter Do’s departure from Helmut Lang is another addition to this wave of changes, marking a year of pivotal shifts in fashion’s creative landscape.
As Do exits, his pre-fall 2025 collection will serve as his final contribution to Helmut Lang, leaving the brand in a transitional period as it searches for his successor.
