Denim Tears unveils its latest collection, The Scorpion & The Frog, launching globally on Friday, January 31st. Ahead of its official release, the collection will debut at a preview pop-up this weekend, January 25–26, at Dover Street Market Paris, aligning with Men’s Fashion Week. Additional pop-ups are set to follow in Tokyo on February 1–2 and in Seoul on February 8–9.
Rooted in deep social commentary, The Scorpion & The Frog draws parallels between the African American Civil Rights movement in the United States and the period known as The Troubles in Northern Ireland. These historical moments of resistance are explored through a contemporary lens, emphasizing shared experiences of activism, oppression, and the fight for justice.

Tremaine Emory, the creative mind behind Denim Tears, finds inspiration in St. Clair Bourne’s 1983 documentary The Black and the Green. The film, screened at MoMA in December 2023, investigates the philosophical and strategic connections between the Civil Rights Movement and the Irish struggle for independence from the late 1960s to 1998. The collection seeks to translate Bourne’s exploration into a tactile and thought-provoking experience, intertwining activism and creativity.
The title, The Scorpion & The Frog, references a 20th-century fable about destructive tendencies and human nature. The story, also featured in the film The Crying Game, underscores the complexities of human behavior, resonating deeply with the themes of the collection. Emory leverages the fable’s allegory to construct a narrative that examines societal dynamics and the challenges of solidarity.

Central to the collection is the Delicate Unit Bomber Jacket, an upcycled masterpiece crafted in collaboration with Japanese design studio DELICATE UNIT. Vintage American-made MA-1 bomber jackets from the 1980s and 1990s are transformed with Guinness towels and Nigeria-inspired embroidery, referencing the origins of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. The pieces are deconstructed and reconstructed, resulting in a visually impactful design that merges historical storytelling with modern craftsmanship.
The Scorpion & The Frog will be available for purchase starting January 31st at 11 AM EST on Denim Tears’ website and at the Africa Diaspora Goods store. This collection is an evocative dialogue between art and history, encouraging wearers to reflect on the enduring fight for justice and the power of interconnected struggles.
