At Paris Couture Week, Gaurav Gupta introduced his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, “Across The Flame,” inspired by his and his partner Navkirat Sodhi‘s recovery from a near-fatal accident. The collection reflects their journey of healing, showcasing themes of resilience and transformation.
The soul of the collection is Astral Projection, an out-of-body experience that Gupta and Sodhi embraced during their process. This concept of transcendence breathes through the lineup, guiding its aesthetic and philosophical foundation. The standout “Twin Flame” ensemble in vibrant ochre embodies the dual spirit of the couple, symbolizing the transformative power of their shared trials and triumphs.
Gupta continues to push the boundaries of couture with his use of unconventional materials and techniques. This season introduces denim in couture through the Bucket Corset and Distressed Bucket Jacket, challenging traditional norms, alongside handwoven brocade from Banaras that carries chants used as mantras during the couple’s recovery. Additionally, midnight blue metal breastplates symbolize armor and protection, illustrating strength amid vulnerability.
The collection showcases meticulous craftsmanship, incorporating new materials like raffia and micro pearls, alongside over 20,000 crystals from Preciosa that enhance the garments with exceptional brilliance and texture. Gupta also introduces new colors like twilight purple and space blue, deepening the narrative of transformation. Collaborations with Object & Dawn bring forth headpieces and jewelry that marry avant-garde vision with celestial symbolism, completed by footwear from René Caovilla.
In partnership with MAC Cosmetics, lead makeup artist Marieke Thibaut crafted looks that integrate elements of the collection’s narrative. Models featured celestial motifs such as a third-eye sun and faces adorned with Preciosa crystals, while some showcased blue hues representing the starseed, an alien form said to have encountered the designers on their journey. Chants woven into fabrics are reimagined as facial markings, adding a spiritual layer to the visual presentation.
The collection not only marks a significant chapter in Gaurav Gupta’s design trajectory but also embodies a broader theme of resilience and spiritual rebirth. Each piece tells a story of overcoming adversity through the power of love and art, resonating deeply with those who witness its presentation. This season, Gupta’s work transcends traditional couture, offering a narrative-rich, visually captivating experience that challenges the conventions of fashion while celebrating the unbreakable human spirit.
