The End takes place twenty-five years after an environmental collapse has rendered the Earth uninhabitable. The story revolves around a wealthy family-Mother, Father, and Son, who reside in a luxurious bunker, trying to cling to hope and normalcy by holding onto daily rituals. However, their seemingly peaceful existence is disrupted when a stranger, Girl, unexpectedly arrives, forcing the family to confront difficult truths about themselves and their circumstances. Son, who has never seen the outside world, is captivated by the newcomer, leading to a series of emotional tensions that threaten to unravel the family’s carefully constructed reality.

As tensions rise, the family’s idyllic routine begins to crumble, revealing deep-seated feelings of remorse and resentment that have been buried for years. The arrival of Girl serves as a catalyst for the family’s reckoning, challenging their blind optimism and forcing them to confront the reality of their existence. Through this emotional journey, The End explores themes of acceptance, love, and the potential for change, offering a powerful narrative about the human capacity to evolve even in the most dire circumstances.
Oppenheimer’s decision to incorporate a musical element into the film adds another layer of complexity to the narrative, creating a unique experience that is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant. With its star-studded cast, thought-provoking storyline, and Oppenheimer’s distinct directorial vision, The End is poised to be one of the most talked-about films of the year. Don’t miss the chance to experience this compelling and haunting musical when it arrives in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 28 March 2025.
