Songzio Fall Winter 2025 collection, Piccadill, reinvents a historical emblem of class and privilege into a contemporary statement of rebellion. The collection takes its name from the piccadill, an elaborate ornamental collar from the Baroque era, once a symbol of societal rank. Through intricate craftsmanship and experimental design, Songzio transforms this icon of exclusivity into a modern centerpiece of avant-garde fashion, weaving together influences from Velázquez’s paintings, Baroque aesthetics, and Eastern design philosophies.
Historically, the piccadill was a richly detailed, structured collar crafted from materials like silk and linen, serving as a marker of wealth and social standing. Songzio reimagines this piece with bold innovation, using its form as inspiration for striking silhouettes and unconventional details. The reinterpreted designs challenge historical conventions, creating garments that conceal and reveal the wearer’s form in unexpected ways, echoing themes of mystery and depth.
Velázquez’s artistic influence is central to the collection, inspiring garments that exude emotional complexity and introspection. These designs balance structure and fluidity, layered with rich textures and intricate cuts that evoke a quiet intensity. The collection embodies a nuanced elegance, where every piece tells a story beyond the physical garment.
Songzio bridges the grandeur of Baroque design with the experimental ethos of the avant-garde. Voluminous shapes with exaggerated proportions are crafted through deconstruction and reconstruction techniques. Bias-cut pieces and intricate pleating add dimension, while hand-painted details and embroidery infuse the garments with a personal artistic touch. Tweed, boucle wool, and linen meet holographic materials, metallic finishes, and opulent velvet. These textures, combined with the interplay of light and shadow, create a visual effect reminiscent of Velázquez’s mastery of depth and detail in painting.
While the collection draws heavily on Western historical aesthetics, Songzio integrates elements from its Eastern roots. Principles of asymmetry, fluidity, and simplicity disrupt the structured forms of Baroque tradition, introducing a raw and organic quality to the designs. Raw edges, unconventional draping, and unfinished details lend the garments a sense of spontaneity. This contrast between order and freedom is further reflected in the palette, muted tones of black, brown, and grey are accented by vibrant reds, yellows, and metallic sheens.
The Piccadill collection’s themes are echoed in its live musical performance, where sound becomes a narrative tool. Performed by Joon Kwak, Max Frimout, and Binkbeats, the music connects industrial metal percussion with modular synth layers, creating a soundscape that mirrors the tension and harmony in the designs.
