Pierre-Louis Mascia Fall/Winter 2025 collection was unveiled on January 17, 2025, in Milan, presenting an exploration of a suspended reality where time appears stretched and space feels liberated. Set against a stark industrial backdrop, the show invites viewers into a realm where characters embark on a wandering journey, seeking connection, emotion, and resistance in an unpredictable present. This contrast between the cold, raw environment and the collection’s enveloping softness serves as a poignant reflection of human vulnerability and the power of creation.
The collection draws on a range of influences, blending references to the Victorian era, the Italian Renaissance, and the poetry of John Keats. Conceived as a visual ode to human frailty, the designs evoke the Schopenhauerian concept of the artist as a sensitive, solitary figure striving to capture fleeting beauty in an indifferent world. The silhouettes, fluid and graceful, embody this duality, an interplay of strength and fragility that defines the essence of the house’s creative ethos.
Pierre-Louis Mascia’s creations this season are a masterclass in fluid tailoring, movement, and understated elegance. Long silk-lined coats, ethereal dresses, and protective shawls cocoon the wearer, while velvet kimonos and quilted jackets offer a sense of comfort and resilience. Flowing trousers and soft bombers enhance the silhouettes with an ease that feels both contemporary and timeless.
The designer’s signature aesthetic, defined by intricate prints and eclectic combinations, takes center stage. Collaborating once again with Achille Pinto, a historic textile printing workshop in Como, Mascia introduces 20 new prints, half of which debut in ready-to-wear. These designs combine analog and digital techniques, reimagining melancholic Victorian portraits, Aubrey Beardsley’s Pre-Raphaelite drawings, and fragments from Bright Star. The prints, layered and transformed, are not merely decorative but integral to the narrative, encapsulating the delicate balance between ephemerality and artistry.
Beyond its aesthetic achievements, this collection serves as a reflection on the role of art in navigating life’s complexities. Mascia explores the concept of wandering, not just as a physical act but as a metaphor for the creative process. In this context, creation becomes both an act of resistance and a source of liberation, capturing the tension between beauty and pain that defines the human condition.
Adding depth to the presentation, an original soundtrack by Thomas Zaï-Gillot under the artistic direction of Irréel Studio complements the runway. The music mirrors the collection’s narrative, weaving together influences from classical composers like Gustav Mahler to the post-punk echoes of The Cure. This auditory dimension improves the show’s emotional resonance, transforming it into an immersive experience that transcends traditional fashion showcases.
