Wooyoungmi’s Fall Winter 2025 collection, presented in the opulent salons of Hôtel de Maisons during Paris Fashion Week, redefined elegance as a contemporary philosophy of self-cultivation. Rooted in the Korean concept of ch’ŏrhak—which translates to “how to become wiser”—the collection explored dressing as a form of self-discipline, embodying diplomacy and dignity while adapting to progressive interpretations of classic attire.

The collection’s foundation was built on classical “proper dressing,” such as the polished dinner suit, reimagined with romantic tonal flower formations. These fabric embellishments disrupted traditional tailoring with poetic flair, extending to coats, shirting, and casual knitwear infused with floral motifs and textures. The use of artisanal techniques emphasized a ceremonial feel, seamlessly blending tradition and modernity.
Outerwear dominated the runway with trench coats, Crombie coats, and parkas redefined as frameworks of elegance. Tactile materials like leather, suede, and shearling added a luxurious dimension, while brightly colored shearling lapels elevated heritage silhouettes. Tailored jackets reminiscent of ceremonial wardrobes offered a youthful yet refined alternative to conventional suiting, embodying a generational shift in elegance.
Utility met sophistication as workwear-inspired coats, suits, and shirts featured cargo pockets styled as epaulettes, chest details, and elbow patches. Extreme sportswear influences brought padded knitwear and nylon trousers that maintained structure and grace, while knitted long-johns offered a novel, elegant take on casualwear, replacing traditional sweatpants.
A standout element was the use of minhwa, traditional Korean folk art, which adorned various garments with its serene yet chaotic landscape motifs. These delicate designs, reconstructed into découpage prints on puffers, linings, and bags, conveyed a sense of harmony amidst disorder, reinforcing the collection’s philosophical undertones. Accessories echoed this narrative, with leather harnesses encasing ceremonial-style footwear and minhwa patterns gracing duffle bags and backpacks. Caps were transformed into refined hats, and knitted scarves and mittens added an ornamental, tactile elegance.
Wooyoungmi FW25 demonstrated a harmonious blend of traditional grace and modern progressivism. By reinterpreting classical aesthetics through contemporary lenses, the collection stood as a poignant exploration of elegance that is at once timeless and forward-thinking. With its thoughtful use of materials, motifs, and structure, Wooyoungmi reminded audiences that elegance is not just an appearance—it is a way of being.
