Rachel Scott’s Fall Winter 2025 collection for Diotima is a deeply personal exploration of the matriarch as a figure of power, complexity, and resilience. Drawing from an archive of Black women’s images spanning generations, Scott reimagines their presence through textiles that evoke warmth and history. Quilted satin capes and embroidered chiffon dresses evoke the warmth of home, while strong-shouldered blazers with macramé anti-epaulettes and fluid pleated trousers reinterpret power dressing without rigidity. Harris Tweed, typically structured and utilitarian, is softened in one-shoulder dresses and skirts, challenging traditional perceptions of the fabric. Eveningwear is stripped to its essence, with glass jersey chemise tops embroidered with black roses and silk georgette bloomers reintroducing historical references through a modern lens. Photographer Katie Borrazzo captured the energy behind the scenes at the Diotima Fall Winter 2025 show, exclusively for DSCENE Magazine.

Scott’s approach to color remains deliberate, with Black and Nightshade forming the foundation, accented by subtle contrasts in Pearl, Butter, and Veil. Footwear reinvents utilitarian silhouettes, turning the fisherman sandal into a stiletto mule and offering a squared-toe D’Orsay flat as a structured alternative. Accessories, from asymmetrical pearl strands to raffia-threaded jewelry, emphasize organic refinement and individuality. Beauty follows a narrative of transformation, hairstyling deconstructs pin-straight locks with exposed rollers, makeup remains bare except for heightened blush or a gloss-black petal at the eye, and nails take on a wine-stained effect or a singular, deliberate line. An underlying sense of nostalgia runs through the collection, reflecting the strength, tenderness, and quiet authority of the women who inspired it. Through craftsmanship and storytelling, Scott’s designs transcend aesthetics, offering a meditation on history, identity, and the unspoken elegance of everyday life.
