In a world gripped by uncertainty, fashion may seem trivial. Yet for GmbH, creativity remains a means of making sense of difficult times. The Fall Winter 2025 collection, presented during INTERVENTION at Berlin Fashion Week, reflects an inward turn, a deliberate pause to examine past works, rediscover familiar ideas, and refine them into something new. Instead of seeking outside references, the design process began with a deep dive into the brand’s own archives. Music from previous shows played in the background as designers revisited silhouettes, textures, and themes that once defined GmbH. This exercise was not about nostalgia but about regaining balance in an unpredictable era.
This collection is an answer to a serious question: What does it mean to design serious clothing? GmbH’s response unfolds through garments that embody grace, structure, and precision. Tailoring takes center stage, with silhouettes that feel both protective and empowering. The act of dressing up, once a daily ritual, now often overlooked, returns with a renewed sense of purpose. The suits, coats, and sharply cut garments are not merely about aesthetics but about reclaiming a sense of self-worth in a world that too often diminishes it.
Norwegian modernist poet Gunvor Hofmo provides a literary counterpart to this introspection. Her poem From Another Reality lends its name to the collection, resonating deeply with its themes of isolation, loss, and fragmented perception. Hofmo’s work, shaped by the lasting impact of war and personal grief, presents the idea that people can witness the same world yet experience it in entirely different ways. This tension, between shared realities and individual perception, manifests in the collection through layered textures, structured forms, and an interplay of restraint and fluidity.
Yet, mourning is not the sole emotion at play. Alongside its darker undertones, the collection explores elegance as an act of resilience. The designers reflect on their fathers, dressed in impeccably tailored suits, never stepping outside without a carefully considered outfit. The ritual of getting dressed takes on new meaning, an assertion of dignity in the face of adversity.
The presentation space itself reinforced this philosophy. The collection was staged against draped muslin, reminiscent of traditional couture salons. This choice not only evoked a sense of craftsmanship but also served a practical purpose, every piece of fabric will be repurposed for toiles in the GmbH atelier after the show. In a time when excess is scrutinized more than ever, this conscious decision underscores the value of materials and the labor behind them.
