Pharrell Williams and Emmanuel Perrotin, a duo celebrated for their pioneering influences in art and culture, are collaborating once again for an unprecedented exhibition. Titled “FEMMES,” this group showcase curated by Pharrell Williams is set to open at Perrotin’s Parisian gallery, featuring nearly 40 artists. This marks a significant return since their first encounter in 2007 in Miami, sparked by a mutual admiration for the Japanese art scene led by Takashi Murakami.
ART
“FEMMES” reflects Pharrell’s respect and admiration for the women who have shaped his life, his wife, mother, sisters, daughters, friends, and muses. This exhibition is not just a display of art but a celebration of the feminine influence that has been a cornerstone of his personal and professional life. The works presented are set to offer a fresh perspective on femininity, with a particular focus on black women who have been central to Pharrell’s inspiration. The artists, hailing from diverse backgrounds and generations, bring a rich variety of styles and narratives to the exhibition, illustrating the complexity and beauty of female identity.

The exhibition features a kaleidoscope of artistic expressions from established and emerging artists including Nina Chanel Abney, Kenia Almaraz Murillo, and Carrie Mae Weems, among others. Each artist brings their unique interpretation of feminine aesthetics and experiences, creating a dynamic dialogue between historical and contemporary themes. “FEMMES” serves as a platform for these artists to showcase their work in a context that emphasizes the importance of women in the arts.

In addition to the array of paintings and sculptures, “FEMMES” will include several large-scale installations and multimedia works. These pieces are set to interact with historical artworks from the gallery’s collection, creating an engaging conversation between past and present. This interplay not only highlights the timelessness of female influence but also Pharrell’s vision of connecting different artistic periods and styles through a modern lens.

Through “FEMMES,” Pharrell invites viewers to rethink traditional representations of women in art and to appreciate the roles they play in shaping our societal and cultural spheres. The exhibition promises to be a transformative experience, challenging conventional views and celebrating the strength and creativity of women worldwide.
“FEMMES” is open to the public from March 20 to April 19, 2025, at Perrotin Gallery in Paris.
