Vivienne Westwood ’s new Shopper Stomper sneaker takes her iconic approach to footwear in a fresh direction. Although it draws inspiration from her past ASICS collaborations, this release is distinctively separate, marking a shift away from the brand’s previous partnerships.

The $550 Shopper Stomper, part of Westwood’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, stands apart from the GEL-Kayano sneakers released in collaboration with ASICS several years ago. While the two are not identical, there are some distinct similarities. The most notable feature is the oversized pull-tab that allows for an adjustable shroud over the sneaker’s upper, reminiscent of the unique, technical detailing found in Westwood’s earlier ASICS releases. The chunky, grippy sole further ties the Shopper Stomper to the athletic footwear aesthetic Westwood has explored in the past. The material, though marketed as leather, is actually a synthetic fabric that mimics the texture and feel of leather.

The Shopper Stomper is just one component of Westwood’s broader footwear range, which also includes the Catch Stomper, a sandal-style sneaker. Westwood’s early ASICS collaborations, which began in 2020, were ahead of their time, with many of the silhouettes challenging sneaker conventions long before the broader market shifted towards more technical, mature designs.

The Shopper Stomper, despite its understated monochrome tones, feels just as forward-thinking. Its easy-on upper and structured form align perfectly with current trends, yet its unique approach feels distinctly Westwood. In many ways, it’s a continuation of the designer’s ability to stay ahead of the curve, whether in footwear or fashion at large.
