FALL WINTER 2016 WOMENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
The magical colour of the Northern Lights streaking across the night sky, an electrifying rainbow of jewel-like tones instantly brightening a winter wonderland. Enchanting people across the world for centuries, the colours are striking, the movement is fluid, almost dance-like and the mood is other-worldly. Many cultures have their own stories about what the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) mean to them. Inuit folklore tells of the aurora representing the dance of the animal spirits they had once hunted. It was the beliefs, creatures and spirits of the Inuits and the colours and motion of the lights themselves that inspired the autumn/winter 2016 Sky-Dweller collection for SORAPOL. Showing for the very first time at Paris Fashion Week, the London-based fashion brand is the brainchild of Head Designer & Director, Sorapol Chawaphatnakul and Creative Director, Daniel Lismore. After several successful seasons showing ready-towear collections in London, this season, the brand has pioneered its creative and technical excellence to make a much-anticipated move into the art of demi-couture. The collection is a vision of beautifully-crafted pieces, covering demi-couture and eveningwear. The defining silhouette is an elegant fishtail gown, while sleek bodycon shapes and contrasting oversized skirts complete with artful draping offer diversity. Laser cutting techniques are used and with lots of sheer details and sequin embellishment, texture is rich and luxurious. Capes as well as tasselled and signature boxy jackets are the collection’s outerwear offering, with particular fanfare for a cape crafted from Italian wool and decorated with ostrich feathers. The fabrics used are beautiful and of the highest quality; from jacquard to tweed and diamond lurex net as well as a cotton-based fabric with a long pile creating a Dalmatian effect, ostrich and marabou feathers and SORAPOL’s very own devore. Much like the Northern Lights themselves, the collection sees colour, spirit, movement and intricate detail with every look. – from Sorapol
