Designer Christina Exsteen presented her Spring Summer 2017 Collection for By Malene Birger during the Copenhagen Fashion Week. The collection is inspired by relaxed sophistication of Los Angeles style and Golden Age of Hollywood’s glamour. The key elements of the collection are pajama-inspired pieces, wide-legged silk pants, elegant blouses and dresses, sharply-tailored jackets and coats, as well as pink fur cape.
SPRING SUMMER 2017 WOMENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
I’ve been travelling a lot to Los Angeles recently, and in the studio in Copenhagen, I’ve pinned up a photo by Terry O’Neill of Faye Dunaway the morning after winning an Oscar for ’Network’. Faye is lounging by the pool of the Beverly Hills Hotel in a gorgeous silk nightgown, looking a little dazed in the 6am morning light. Like it’s all a beautiful dream. I wanted that old Hollywood glamour and sexiness for the collection, but in a totally modern way. So the collection is also inspired by LA style now, the way women in the city dress to suit their lifestyles – luxurious, but personal and relaxed. It’s about the freedom and independence to wear what feels right for you. I want to design clothes that make you feel beautiful and confident. I find that really powerful. – Christina Exsteen, Creative Director, By Malene Birger
