Centre Georges Pompidou has announced the largest retrospective devoted to French photographer, painter, and poet Dora Maar (Henriette Theodora Markovitch, 22 November 1907 – 16 July 1997). The exhibition is organized by the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne, in co production with the J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles) and in collaboration with the Tate Modern (London).
Initially a professional photographer and surrealist before becoming a painter, Dora Maar is an artist of undeniable renown. Far beyond the image, to which she is all too often limited, of her intimate relationship with Picasso, this exhibition retraces the life of an accomplished artist and a free and independent intellectual. – from Centre Pompidou
The exhibition opens June 5th and will be ons see until July 29 at Galerie 2 – Centre Pompidou, Paris.
