Lina sits down with our Editor ANA MARKOVIC to talk her runway debut at Louis Vuitton, must-know facts for anyone wanting to work in fashion and changes the industry should make.
How were you discovered? Did you always want to be a model?
I went to an open call at PMA Models about 5 years ago and they signed me on the spot. I wanted to be a model since I was 12 years old.
Your career started with an exclusive runway debut for Louis Vuitton. Can you tell us more about it, were you nervous? Did you manage to enjoy it?
I was so nervous at the beginning. It was my very first show and I was not good at walking in heels. Luckily, my agent went with me backstage and was able to keep me calm. I managed to enjoy it when I saw Selena Gomez sitting front row, she was my favourite artist at the time.
How different was the real modeling world, from the one you imagine before you started working?
It was actually quite similar to what I expected, but did not know it would be so mentally and physically stressful.
“A movie about my life would definitely be a comedy, I don’t like to take life too seriously.”
What are the projects you are most proud of?
That’s a tough one…. I’m always proud when I get a magazine cover, it’s such a huge honour and privilege. However, I’m equally proud of my Gucci Campaign.
When you think about your work, what is the first shoot that comes to mind and why?
The first shoot that always comes to mind is my first trip outside of Germany. We shot in Marrakesh desert at night, and got to sleep in tents on the sand.
Dream job? Who would you like to work with?
My dream job is to be an actress. I would love to work with Reese Witherspoon, she is incredibly talented and I enjoy her humour.
So, if a movie was made about your life, what genre would it be, and who would play you?
A movie about my life would definitely be a comedy, I don’t like to take life too seriously. I would hold a big casting and give new talent the chance to play me.
“Have confidence and patience with your career, your big breakout could happen at any moment.”
What would you say is the key to success in modeling business?
The key to success in modeling is to be yourself and always treat others with respect.
How would you describe your personal style and what would you like to add to your wardrobe this season?
My personal style is no doubt casual and cool, I do love soft materials. I’d like to add some more colours to my wardrobe, perhaps some shades of purple and green.
What is your beauty routine and do you have a workout regimen?
First, I wash my face. Then I apply a Vitamin E oil and let it soak in for about ½ hour. Lastly, I apply a moisturizing cream. That’s it! I stay in shape by going to the gym once a day, but also eating a healthy and balanced diet, and riding my bicycle as much as possible.
What 3 things does anyone starting in fashion industry need to know?
Firstly, the traveling is hard at first, but you do get used to it. Second, try and live in the moment. The Fashion Industry is so fast paced that one day you could be a star, and the next you may not be. And third, have confidence and patience with your career, your big breakout could happen at any moment.
“The key to success in modeling is to be yourself and always treat others with respect.”
If you could change one thing about the fashion industry, what would it be?
The one thing I would change about the fashion industry is to make it more sustainable. Not only is fashion the worlds second largest polluter, but only 1% of clothing is being recycled.
Your tip for taking the best photo?
My tip for taking the best photo is to have natural light coming from behind the camera.
And finally, what makes you happy?
Too many things to count! I enjoy being around fun people, drawing, bicycling, and being in nature.
