Poet and activist Amanda Gorman teams up with fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz for the cover story of American Vogue Magazine‘s May 2021 edition. In charge of styling was Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, with hair styling from Lacy Redway, and makeup by beauty artist Raisa Flowers.
I’ve learned that it’s okay to be afraid. And what’s more, it’s okay to seek greatness. That does not make me a black hole seeking attention. It makes me a supernova. – Amanda Gorman
For the cover story Gorman is wearing selected pieces from brands such as Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, Dior, Aliétte, Alexander McQueen, Y/Project, Auvere, Khems Designs, Studio 189, and Brother Vellies.
Amanda read her original poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Biden’s Inauguration. She also wrote the Super Bowl’s first-ever pre-game poem, titled Chorus of the Captains. Back in 2017, she was named the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate of the United States. Gorman is the founder and executive director of One Pen One Page organization, that provides free creative writing programs for underserved youth.
