Fashion brand H&M presented their Skate & Surf Summer 2021 Collection, inspired by the lifestyle of skaters and surfers, that brings vibrant basics and swimwear looks. The campaign featured Emily Williams and Jhanaiya Smith-Butler from Black Girls Skate and Camryn Silva. It celebrates freedom, empowerment and togetherness.
Black Girls Skate is a non-profit organization devoted to creating equity, visibility and safety for all skaters who identify as women and/or non-binary, black, African or of colour.
Being an ambassador for Black Girls Skate is one of the most important things in my life. As a black girl, I started skating in a world where I didn’t see myself in any skate magazines or any ads; no one looked like me. Skateboarding is a white male-dominated sport and to be a black girl standing on a skateboard is already making a statement. Black Girl Skate is bringing a sense of community and being ABLE to let the next generation of women feel powerful and infinite. Skateboarding is for everyone. Being an ambassador for Black Girl Skate kind of makes me that person for other people. And that’s honestly so surreal. Inspiring people is the inspiration itself. — Emily Williams
