Bottega Veneta officially confirmed the appointment of Matthieu Blazy as Creative Director with immediate effect. The 37 year old designer has graduated at La Cambre in Brussels and worked under some of the most influential contemporary designers. Blazy started his design career at Raf Simons’ eponymous menswear atelier, moving on to Maison Martin Margiela where he worked on the ready-to-wear womenswear as well as label’s couture collections.
Matthieu Blazy’s next appointment was the one of Senior Designer at another French maison, this time Céline. In 2016 he reunites with Raf Simons to work together at Calvin Klein, on American label’s now discontinued runway line.
Blazy is already familiar with Bottega Veneta where he continued his design work after leaving Calvin Klein. He was appointed as the Ready-To-Wear Design Director at Bottega Veneta in 2020.
“Matthieu Blazy is an extraordinarily talented individual, whom I am proud and excited to entrust with the creative helm of our luxury House. Bottega Veneta has always been equated with signature craftsmanship and distinctive creativity. Matthieu’s appointment will further enhance the modern relevance of our brand and accelerate our growth, while preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta,” shares with the press Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta
Chairman & CEO of Kering François-Henri Pinault, also commented for the press the rapid appointment of Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta: “The very solid foundations, specific codes and unique identity of Bottega Veneta enable us to nurture great ambitions for the future of this luxury House. I am confident that Matthieu Blazy’s wealth of experience and broad cultural background will allow him to bring his creative impetus to the task of carrying on the legacy of Bottega Veneta.“
Blazy is in for busy few months, with label already working on his first Bottega Veneta collection to be presented in February 2022. While not yet confirmed the presentation might align Bottega Veneta back with the Milan Fashion Week schedule, currently scheduled to run from 22nd to 29th of February in 2022.
