NANA KOMATSU takes the spotlight in pieces from the CHANEL Fall Winter 2023 runway collection posing in front of the lens of Inez & Vinoodh. The legendary fashion photography duo enlisted by Chanel and the maison’s Creative Director Virginie Viard. Chanel Fall Winter 2023 collection is to take the runway today on the final day of the season’s Paris Fashion Week.
The striking images featuring Nana are inspired by the iconic film that influenced generations of fashion creatives, Inez & Vinoodh masterfully took on the legendary Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? from 1966. The film withstood decades thanks to it’s signature fashion style and the work of director and photographer William Klein. The story follows a young model from the States living in Paris, back then played by Dorothy McGowan. For the session the set design was specially created to envision the apartment of the film’s star.
“It’s the idea of a Japanese woman in Paris, with a spirit of light-heartedness and freedom. In the way she moves in the video there is a sense of wonder, a sense of displacement and belonging” – share Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin
The shoot is accompanied by a masterfully shot video story starring Nana in black and white. “Nana Komatsu wears a long black and white tweed coat woven with camellias, a two-tone tweed suit with a patent bag, and a floral jumper with wide-cut trousers in washed faille embroidered with big petals, from the Fall-Winter 2023/24 Ready-to-Wear collection. The reduced size of the room, reinforced by the wide-angle effect, adds a surreal dimension to these images, which is echoed in the rest of the film and photos. Dressed in an asymmetric tweed jacket with a large panel and embroidered black velvet shorts, or in a Bermuda shorts suit in black velvet with a camellia motif, Nana Komatsu seems to emerge, like a romantic heroine, from the ocean on the wooden horses of a merry-go-round,” adds Chanel team in their press notes.
The CHANEL Fall-Winter 2023/24 Ready-to-Wear show is taking the runway today on Tuesday, 7th March at 2pm – and soon to follow on DSCENE. In the meantime see the striking teaser video with Nana and the images below:
