Fashion house ALEXANDER WANG unveiled its Spring 2023 Siren campaign starring model Jade Hsu captured by photographer Steven Klein. In charge of set design was CJ Dockery, with stunt coordination from Michael Arch Archambault, water choreography by Paola Tirados, and production by Starkman & Associates. Beauty is work of hair stylist Akki Shirakawa, makeup artist Kabuki, and manicurist Jin Soon. Puppeteer Kate Brehm. The campaign captures Wang’s alpha female as she interacts with and tames an octopus, and dominates a new territory and a new realm. No animals were used in the making of this campaign. Prosthetic octopus created by Vincent Van Dyke Effect.
“Crystal dressing, a large focus of the Wang brand DNA, is explored and applied in new iterations and seen on new fabrications throughout the collection. Nylon track styles, denim, day-to-night knitwear and poplin are all reimagined with a wet or scaly look by the adhesion of crystal beading and sequin. These illusive details are designed to create a layering dimension, or a second skin element to each piece. Purposefully so, a large focus of the collection gives the specter that it has been dipped in water. Extending from the Resort ‘23 collection, draped dresses previously done in a luxe cotton jersey have been restructured in poplin and mixed as layering pieces with swimwear. Newly developed swimwear poplin has also been fused into traditional swim pieces styled throughout the collection. Swimwear poplin is functional and waterproof, proving as an essential Spring / Summer layering fabric. Shiny swim lycra, a more traditional swim fabrication has been envisaged in a new context in draped cocktail dresses and draped bodysuits.” – from Alexander Wang
