The Nike Dunk has established itself as a household name over time. With regular sneaker buyers and sneaker enthusiasts alike, this popular silhouette has additionally increased Nike’s appeal. Initially a basketball shoe targeted towards collegiate athletes, the Dunk made its debut in 1985. The design was inspired by the Air Force 1, the Terminator, the Air Jordan 1, and the Legend. While design elements of the Air Jordan 1 and Terminator were combined to create the upper, The Legend helped create the molds for the popular silhouette. The outsole and overall look of the Dunk were inspired by the Air Force 1.
Nike SB adopted the design and made it its own in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In the years 2020 and 2021, the Dunk saw a full resurgence, well surpassing its original function as a collegiate basketball sneaker and transitioning into a skateboarding staple.
Despite the Dunk’s incredible ability to blend art, fashion, music, and popular culture into a seamless whole, it has consistently been a sneaker for many subcultures around the globe.
Due to its straightforward design, harmonious color blocking, and exceptional shape and style adaptability, the Nike Dunk is currently one of the most sought-after sneakers on the market.
With so many amazing sneakers available right now, it can be challenging to find the perfect Nike Dunk. Thankfully, the DSCENE team has put together a list of some of our favorites based on their designs and “it” factor to make it easier for you to decide which pair to add to your collection.
