Fashion brand AALTO RECODED unveiled its Spring Summer 2024 Collection that brings silhouette that blurs the lines between industrial minimalism and one-of-a-kind artistry, created by juxtaposing casual urban aesthetics with refined craftsmanship. The collection, inspired by the spirit of Finlandia, depicts the essence of the pure and innocent Finnish youth. Art Deco is evident in the designs, which represent a celebration of female body liberation. The collection is named ‘re/soul‘, reflecting the intention to create purposeful and soulful garments in accordance with Aalto Recoded™‘s mission of sustainable fashion and addressing the waste problem and mass-consumerism in the industry. Inspired by vintage fashion, the collection includes banker white collars, grey business suits, denims, industrial blues, tees, sweatshirts, and seductive lace. These materials are repurposed to create new garments, such as patchwork indigo denim, white balnéaire cotton sets, and silk carrés paired with shirting and sheer tops and skirts.
For the season design emphasizes the interaction between our bodies and apparel, blurring the distinction between feminine and masculine styles. Natural hemp is introduced for its rough yet refined texture in tailoring, such as the iconic Aalto front pleat trousers, soft shoulder tailor jackets, and cone dresses and hats inspired by Art Deco. In addition, the collection includes a sweater inspired by trekking and constructed from GRS-certified recycled nylon that can be worn as an evening dress.
As a Paris-based brand, Aalto and its team were excited to show in Finland as part of the Fashion In Helsinki event. Tuomas Merikoski invited Kalevala Koru to work with him on the looks for the show as a way to honor the event and show that he wants to broaden the global view of Finnish fashion. Kalevala Koru is an iconic jewelry brand that became famous when it was seen around the neck of Princess Leia in Star Wars. It is a symbol of Finnish design because it was started by a woman in the early 20th century when Finland was just becoming independent. All of the jewelry is created and made in Helsinki, Finland, in line with the long-term values of the brand.
