Fashion brand MIU MIU unveiled its Fall Winter 2023 LIVE! campaign lensed by fashion photographer Zoë Ghertner, with art direction from Edward Quarmby. In charge of styling was Lotta Volkova, with casting direction from Ashley Brokaw. Beauty is work of hair stylist Holli Smith, and makeup artist Yadim. Stars of the campaign are singer-songwriter, Ethel Cain, actors Emma Corrin, Mia Goth and Zhao Jinmai, models Amelia Gray Hamlin and Annabelle Weatherly and model and LGBTQ+ advocate, Zaya Wade.
In the present, Miu Miu LIVE! resides at the intersection of real-time and the future, inhabiting transitory and democratic spaces – an airport? a television studio? – and embodying the concept of perpetual movement, which appears to exist both everywhere and nowhere.
The performances of the characters in this domain are immediate and dynamic – a live experience that shifts from moment to moment, becoming introspective and distant at times. This intentional disruption of the familiar is reflected in their unconventional attire. Their wardrobe consists of elegant twinsets, knee-length pencil skirts, and oversized tailoring crafted from dry, heavyweight wools that both conceal and expose the body.
Elements that are typically concealed, such as waistbands of stockings, signature panties worn without skirts, and delicate petticoats, are now revealed. This fusion of spontaneity and comfort is embodied in their clothing, while an aura of mystery surrounds them on an emotional level. Traditional notions that are universally acknowledged as genuine are challenged and viewed from an entirely new angle.
