Upon our recent visit to Berlin, we had the fortune of staying at Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT, located in a newly renovated iconic building steeped in history and luxury of contemporary redesign. Nestled next to the Museum Island and surrounded by the Monbijou Park, this unique hotel offers an experience every modern-day traveller is on the lookout for, whether coming to Berlin for business or leisure.
Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT And Its Architecture
Housed in the iconic Haupttelegraphenamt building, this hotel connects with its guests in a way few establishments can, intertwining the echoes of history with contemporary luxury. The original building constructed between 1910 and 1916, is a neo-baroque monument once standing as Germany’s most elaborate postal building, acting as the centre of the then-revolutionary telephone network. Its historical charm continues to resonate, with the hotel’s carefully planned renovation maintaining the allure of the past. Each corner of the TELEGRAPHENAMT seems to tell a story, from its grand exterior to the carefully preserved features of the old telegraph office.
The transformation is the work of award-winning DREIMETA architecture practice. It has resulted in a combination of art deco design with undertones of Babylon Berlin. This juxtaposition creates a stylish environment that’s inviting and mesmerizing. The interior seamlessly blends the past and the present, resulting in an unforgettable and cosy space to stay in, have lunch or a drink. The hotel opened its doors in November 2022 after an extensive and detailed renovation of the old postal building.
Rooms and Suites at Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT
With a total of 97 rooms, maisonettes, and suites, each ranging between 21m² to 140m², the accommodation caters to all preferences. Yet the hotel has the sentiment of a smaller boutique hotel, with special attention by the helpful staff. Our room was no exception, providing a serene retreat with contemporary designer furniture and TELEGRAPHENAMT’s thoughtful amenities. At the hotel detail is the king, and the attention to details in the room design connects the space with the building’s historic context.
The Perfect Location
Situated steps away from the Museum Island, between Berlin’s historic centre and a lively district, the Hotel Telegraphenamt’s location ensures that you never run out of things to explore. For every first time visitor to Berlin, as well as returning ones, museum Isle is a must-see. Especially with the newly opened Humboldt Forum and the jewels of classics such as the Neues museum. Additionally, city’s landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Checkpoint Charlie are all a short walk away.
When it comes to food the neighbourhood in recent years turned into a vibrant scene of speakeasies and charming restaurants. And if Museum Isle is not enough for you (or too much for you) we must recommend the Sprüth Magers Gallery with its interactive exhibitions located around the corner from Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT.
Dining at ROOT Restaurant
The hotel’s restaurant, ROOT, firstly offers one of the best breakfasts you can get in town. That said, it also offers an extraordinary culinary adventure for all the guests. ROOT is blending Asian delicacies with German love for gourmet food. The restaurant’s striking interior complements the quality of the food and fits in perfectly with the overall vibe set by the architects for the old post office building turned hotel. At night, the innovative cocktails served at the bar provide a perfect closure to the evening.
Service and Staff
Our review of Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT would be incomplete without mentioning the exemplary service. The staff were courteous, attentive, and genuinely invested in ensuring that our stay was perfect. From check-in to check-out, every interaction was marked by professionalism and warmth.
If you are planning a trip to Berlin, Hotel TELEGRAPHENAMT is not merely a place to stay; it is an experience that encapsulates the city’s beautiful soul. Whether on a business trip or a leisurely vacation, this hotel offers a distinctive and luxurious retreat.
