The Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2024 Men’s Collection by Pharrell Williams is a mix of nautical themes, cultural fusion, and innovative fashion, embodying the power of travel and the mystique of the moon. Staged in the vibrant metropolis of Hong Kong SAR, the collection marks Pharrell’s first pre-collection for Louis Vuitton, showcasing the LVERS philosophy that lies at the heart of his creative direction. This philosophy celebrates the universal values that connect us across different cultures and geographies.
The collection explores the globe from Hawaii to Hong Kong, capturing the essence of travel through its nautical inspirations. Surfing and tropical motifs are evident in the clothing, symbolizing a shared wardrobe across continents. Each piece serves as a conduit of energy, transforming the relaxed vibe of Hawaiian beaches to the urban streets of Hong Kong.
The show, set against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour and under the night sky, unfolds on the Avenue of Stars, paying homage to the stars of Hong Kong’s film industry and reflecting the harbour’s history as a cultural crossroads.
Pharrell’s collection reimagines the sailor’s uniform with a modern twist, featuring navy and maritime-striped suits, pea coats with pearl buttons, and chambray sailor suits. Nautical elements are woven into the designs, from shell-embroidered jackets to sweats accented with ship rope. The motifs of sailors’ tattoos are integrated with shell graphics, creating a unique aesthetic.
The collection also introduces innovative patterns, including a new infinity LV logo and Neptune-inspired designs. Denim pieces are bleached, and the Roman god of seas is referenced in patterns reminiscent of Hawaiian floral shirts.
Skateboarding’s rebellious spirit is linked to surf culture, with the moon’s influence on tides mirrored in the collection’s designs. Surfer-inspired elements, such as scuba suits with beaded logos and linen tailoring with tropical prints, are prominent. Raffia-woven shoes and accessories complement the collection’s beachy feel.
The collection pays tribute to the Hawaiian floral shirt, a symbol of cultural connectivity, with ten unique patterns that embody the shirt’s vibrant spirit and global appeal.
Footwear in the collection is diverse, ranging from the nautical-inspired LV Dandy loafer to the innovative LV COBRA slip-on, a marvel of 3D-printing technology. The collection’s shoes blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and style.
Bags are reimagined with surfing and sailing themes, introducing new colors and materials that echo the collection’s nautical essence. The Damier Denim 3D line and hand-woven raffia bags are standout pieces.
Accessories, including Super Vision sunglasses, naval-inspired hats, and artisanal jewelry, complete the collection. These pieces draw from nautical and surfer influences, adding an extra layer of thematic depth.
The show features a diverse cast of locals, Hawaiian surfers, and international friends, embodying the collection’s global spirit. An original soundtrack by Pharrell Williams, Swae Lee, and Rauw Alejandro, performed live by ukulele players, provided the perfect auditory backdrop.
