A Tribute to Frank Gehry’s Vision
The Louis Vuitton booth, specially designed for the occasion, is a testament to Gehry’s innovative approach to architecture and design. Visitors are immersed in an environment that mirrors his unique aesthetic and his flair for experimenting with forms. The booth features wood and cardboard models, quintessential to Gehry’s design process, and sail-like mesh structures reminiscent of his 2014 window displays for Louis Vuitton.
The Frank Gehry x Louis Vuitton Collection
Central to the exhibit is the world premiere of the Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry limited-edition handbag collection. This exclusive line encompasses three themes reflective of Gehry’s illustrious career: Architecture and Form, Material Exploration, and Animals. The collection includes reinterpretations of the Maison’s iconic Capucines bags, the Twisted Box Trunk, and the remarkable Bear With Us Clutch, inspired by Gehry’s 2014 sculpture.
Each piece in the collection exemplifies a fusion of Gehry’s architectural genius and Louis Vuitton’s renowned craftsmanship. Highlights include the Capucines Mini Blossom, with resin petals inspired by perfume bottles, and the Capucines MM Concrete Pockets, featuring innovative 3D cement-effect printing.
A Tea Party for Louis: A Nod to Louis Vuitton’s Legacy
Another highlight at Art Basel is Gehry’s “A Tea Party for Louis” Trunk. Created for the “200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries” exhibition, this piece draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and embodies both the whimsical and the architectural.
Gehry’s Artistic Endeavors with Louis Vuitton
The exhibition also features Gehry’s contributions to Louis Vuitton’s artistic ventures, including Les Extraits perfume bottles, handcrafted stoppers from Murano, Italy, and various sketches and models. Visitors can also view videos of Gehry’s most famous collaborations with the Maison, alongside a painted portrait by French artist Jean-Philippe Delhomme.
