Daniel Lee‘s latest Burberry Autumn 2024 collection is a testament to his ongoing vision for the brand, seamlessly blending British culture’s rich heritage with contemporary flair. The collection, deeply rooted in British archetypes, iconography, and people, reaffirms the brand’s iconic codes while introducing fresh elements.
This season’s palette includes muted classic colors alongside earthy tones, featuring a new expression of the iconic Burberry Check. The collection is characterized by relaxed elegance, with easy proportions and lighter fabrications ideal for layering between seasons. A standout piece is the long, unbelted trench coat, available in silk twill and wool, alongside protective versions in classic Burberry colors made from shearling and technical blends.
Shearling aviator coats and jackets, some sleeveless or transformed into scarves, pay homage to Burberry’s aviation heritage. Leather styles, trimmed with shearling and faux fur, draw inspiration from the brand’s history in motorsport clothing. Traditional British outerwear, including wool duffle coats, functional field jackets, parkas, and Harrington jackets, are reimagined with contemporary details.
The collection emphasizes relaxed, functional, and protective clothing. Wool capes, dresses, and herringbone shirts feature press-stud wraparound collars, inspired by archival motoring coats. The slip dress is redefined as an outer garment in boiled wool with wool lace trim.
Detailing in the collection is both considered and unexpected. Zips adjust the shape of pleated skirts and replace buttons on double-breasted coats and tailored jackets. Cargo trousers in garment-dyed cotton feature press studs at the sides. The Knight bag is ingeniously reconstructed as a mini skirt in grainy calf leather.
Underpinning the collection, high-neck sweaters in mohair wool are brushed for warmth and wear, while tasselled blanket scarves in wool feature the Equestrian Knight Design and check.
Seasonal micro prints add a playful touch, recreating British iconography like post boxes and double-decker buses. Wrap dresses in ruffled crepe jersey and velvet boast eyelets or floral cutouts, while a loose dress in crinkled crepe features a camouflage print with a watercolour effect and crushed stud detailing.
Shoe designs range from exaggerated proportions in familiar shapes to new styles. The Wedge is a high-heeled loafer with a moccasin construction, and Buck shoes in leather feature double monk straps on a rubber sole. The collection also includes Equestrian Stirrup boots, Boulder boots with Burberry Check side panels, and the cosy Snug boots in shearling and Pillow mules in Burberry Check.
Faux fur and chain elements adorn the kitten-heeled B Minnie and Slinky sandals, also available as over-the-knee boots in stretch leather. The ‘B’ metal toecap graces nappa leather Duck pumps and Chisel mules and sling-backs in leather with studded floral cutouts.
The collection’s bags are as diverse as they are stylish, with the addition of the structured Shield Case bag and the mini Shield Sling bag with tassels. The Knight bag returns, accompanied by the new Rocking Horse tote and the leather Snip clutch. The Trench tote, inspired by the Burberry icon, is available in leather or garment-dyed cotton canvas. Bag colors like loch, hazel, thicket, and military reflect an outdoorsy vibe, while richer shades like kingfisher add a pop of color.
In jewellery, geometric designs are intricately crafted. The B collection reimagines the Burberry initial in chain-link rings, bracelets, and earrings. The Shield collection expands with slim earrings and a new infinity ring, necklace, and hoop earrings inlaid with stones. The Hollow Graphic ring and earrings develop a diamond-shaped design, while Armour earrings feature pavé-set spheres within a curved cage structure.
