The 2024 Golden Globes marked a triumphant return to the red carpet after a year of dual labor strikes. With 9.4 million viewers tuning in, a significant increase from 2023, the event showcased the enduring influence of luxury fashion houses despite a slowdown in luxury sales. Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Schiaparelli, Gucci, and Armani emerged as the dominant forces, dressing numerous A-listers. Let’s take a look at the different fashion houses and the tinsel town celebs who adorned their finest creations.

  • Dior’s Garden of Delights

Natalie Portman elegantly adorned the red carpet, showcasing a captivating Dior Haute Couture evening dress. The gown featured black tulle adorned with an impressionist landscape of micro-flowers and vermicelli. Rosamund Pike followed suit, channeling her character in “Saltburn” with a Dior Haute Couture lace bustier dress. Ali Wong opted for a goddess-like white silk crepe dress, showcasing the versatility of Dior’s designs. Kim Jones, Dior’s men’s artistic director, dressed 12 guests, including Kieran Culkin, adding a touch of humor with colorful beaded bracelets.

  • Louis Vuitton’s Elegance

The Golden Globes debuted Pharrell Williams’ first red carpet looks for Louis Vuitton. A Globes winner, Emma Stone, wore a custom deep-V gown with flower embellishments and Louis Vuitton high jewelry. Oprah Winfrey showcased a curve-hugging, custom purple sequin gown with geometric embroidery. Barry Keoghan sported a red-hot Damier patterned Louis Vuitton suit with a punk edge, emphasizing the brand’s ability to cater to diverse styles. Colman Domingo, portraying Bayard Rustin, donned a Nehru-style jacket with brooches, paying homage to a civil rights trailblazer.

  • Prada’s Fusion of Style

Prada’s modern juxtaposition of hard and soft, romantic and tailored, significantly impacted the red carpet. Ayo Edebiri stood out in a fiery red strapless Prada tea-length dress reminiscent of the women’s spring 2024 runway collection. Hunter Schafer’s pink silk gazar and technical voile column dress showcased layered flounces inspired by Prada’s runway. Brie Larson opted for a ladylike wisteria technical satin dress, highlighting the brand’s versatility. Bella Ramsey embraced Prada’s uniform side with a light blue blouson jacket and gray trousers.

  • Schiaparelli’s Surrealist Elegance

Under designer Daniel Roseberry’s direction, Schiaparelli continued to captivate Hollywood with its modern take on surrealism. Dua Lipa wore a custom black velvet bustier dress with trompe l’oeil gilded bones, inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s collaboration with Salvador Dali. Carey Mulligan chose a strapless black and white gown with bodice ruching, evoking a spine and recreating an original Schiaparelli design. Natasha Lyonne donned a custom bustier dress fully covered in ecru glass bugle beads and fringe tubes, paying homage to the brand’s history and surrealism.

  • Gucci’s Fresh Aesthetic Approach

Gucci presented a simpler, sportier, and younger aesthetic. Taylor Swift stole the spotlight in a fierce, serpentine-green sequined Gucci dress. Julia Garner chose a chic Gucci floor-length sequin dress with strass embroidery, emphasizing the brand’s versatility. Mark Ronson, who produced music for Gucci’s first women’s runway show under De Sarno, showcased a custom black tuxedo with round interlocking G buttons.

  • Armani’s Timeless Glamour

Giorgio Armani, a pioneer in dressing Hollywood stars, remains a red-carpet favorite. Margot Robbie, styled by Andrew Mukamal, surprised everyone by opting for a Barbie pink Armani Privé gown and tulle boa. Selena Gomez chose an Armani Privé ruby red cutout dress with crystal embroidered flowers, showcasing the brand’s versatility. Armani dressed 15 stars, including Charles Melton, solidifying the designer’s reign in Hollywood for the future.

Final Thoughts

These six fashion powerhouses demonstrated their enduring influence and creativity on the Golden Globes red carpet, showcasing diverse styles that captivated audiences worldwide. From intricate couture to bold and modern designs, these brands continue to shape the narrative of red-carpet fashion.
