Hagel has unveiled the latest in their series of reinterpretations of the famous PUMA Mostro sneaker, following the Monstrous Mostro and Softcore models. This time, PUMA x Hagel Mostro “Plié” Edition, has the experimental footwear design studio transforming the shoe into a ballet flat.

This reinterpretation of the PUMA Mostro, called the “Plié” edition, features a ballet-inspired design, characterized by their slim, form-fitting shape and the use of light blue satin ribbons that wrap around the legs, mimicking the look of ballet pointe shoes. The ribbons add an element of elegance and contrast sharply with the rugged aesthetic of the sneaker’s base.

The shoe itself retains the distinctive features of the Mostro, including its signature spiked rubber sole, which provides a textured, grippy look. The color palette is subtle and sophisticated, with a combination of light blue, black, and white. All together the shoes seem to be referencing the blokecore or balletcore fashion trends, similar to the newly released Nike Naomi Osaka x Yoon Ahn Collection that also incorporates highly feminine elements into sport attire.

The PUMA Mostro, first launched in 1999, derived its name from the Italian word for “monster,” hinting at its bold, unconventional design. Originally, the Mostro combined the 1960s sprinting spikes with the 1980s surf shoes. Its low-profile silhouette, characterized by a spiked rubber sole and a flexible strap closure, quickly made it a favorite in the world of street fashion. Celebrities like Madonna and Björk were spotted sporting the Mostro, further cementing its place as an iconic piece of footwear.

In 2024, the Mostro made a highly anticipated return, aligning with the resurgence of Y2K fashion trends. PUMA has released a series of new interpretations themselves, as well as doing collaborations for more playful versions, one of which is the A$AP Rocky’s AWGE Mostro 3D.
We are yet to get any information on the release of The PUMA x Hagel Mostro “Plié,” regarding the price or date. In the meantime take a closer look at the model in the Gallery below:
