Discussing his process for designing the cover, Nuriev revealed, “This is what my creative process usually looks like when I’m working on a space. I mentally empty the room by removing everything and then draw the space in my mind as if starting from a blank canvas.” This philosophy is vividly reflected in the cover’s minimalist yet surreal aesthetic, inviting readers to enter an imagined world that feels at once intimate and expansive.
In an exclusive interview with DSCENE’s editor, Katarina Doric, Nuriev talks about his broader design philosophy, sharing insights into his concept of “Transformism” and his latest exhibition, “The Foam Room.” Known for his bold colors, playful minimalism, and innovative approach, Nuriev describes his evolution as a designer who bridges art, design, and architecture. “Transformism is an alternative reality that lives in my mind—a fantasy about a future utopia where transformation and repurposing are essential,” he explains.
Reflecting on his approach to art in the digital age, Nuriev compares his work to a “party trick,” suggesting it’s a playful yet critical commentary on how art is consumed today. “Foam perfectly represents today’s life of consumption: producing large volumes quickly, only to disappear even faster,” he notes. Throughout the interview, Nuriev shares his belief in the role of magic within his creations, stating, “That’s all I believe in.”
The Wicked Wonderland issue, featuring this exclusive cover by Harry Nuriev, invites readers into a world of bold imagination and layered narratives.
