IKEA goes back into its archives to unveil the sixth edition of the Nytillverkad collection, a vibrant and customizable range of furniture and textiles inspired by the brand’s design history from the 1960s to the 1990s. Available globally from February 2025, the collection breathes new life into iconic designs, reimagining them for contemporary homes while staying true to their bold and versatile roots.
DESIGN
At the heart of this release are four standout chairs, each a revival of a classic IKEA design. Niels Gammelgaard’s MOFALLA, a steel tube easy chair, takes inspiration from its 1978 predecessor, COX. It’s a sleek and foldable living room addition. Meanwhile, Gill Lundgren’s DYVLINGE swivel armchair—formerly known as MILA (1967)—adds a pop of bold orange, and the SOTENÄS armchair, a cheerful red update of PUCK (1969), rounds out the lineup with playful energy.
Complementing these seating designs is Gammelgaard’s BYAKORRE shelving unit, originally the GUIDE from 1985. This open and reversible shelving piece lets users flip between white and anthracite grey shelves, accented with edges in vibrant blue, green, yellow, red, or a minimalist plain white. “This piece allows you to play and customise the shelf to your whim, whether you want bold colours or something more subtle,” Gammelgaard explains.
The collection also revisits Erik Wørts’ 1963 NOVETTE benches, now reimagined as the GUTTANE side and coffee tables. Crafted with solid oak legs and oak veneer tabletops, these tables maintain their iconic ledge detail, combining functionality with understated elegance.
Textiles take center stage as well, showcasing vintage-inspired prints and patterns. Sven Fristedt’s 1973 blue-and-white cloud motif is reborn as the ÄNGSVITVINGE bed linen, while Anna Efverlund’s 1997 popcorn-inspired MODIG KORN design returns as the black-and-white KLIPPBRÄCKA bed linen. Efverlund’s softer design language also shines through in the curvy KÄLLARHALS glass vases, a 1995 revival of her SNURRA vases, now coated in vibrant yellow and orange lacquer.
Karin Gustavsson, creative leader of the Nytillverkad collection, highlights the thoughtful fusion of past and present: “Simply adding one piece from this collection will make a statement, with items that can also change form and colour to fit each individual home. We have pulled inspiration from four decades, reimagining the pieces to feel fresh and new.”
From bold seating and versatile shelving to playful textiles and soft curves, the Nytillverkad collection bridges generations of design, offering pieces that bring joy and individuality into modern homes. The sixth Nytillverkad collection will be available in IKEA stores worldwide and online starting February 2025.
