
Jordan Brand continues to expand the Air Jordan 4 RM line with the upcoming Driveway Black colorway, due to release in Spring 2025. Building on the momentum from Nigel Sylvester’s well-received “Driveway Grey,” this latest version explores the same reimagined silhouette in a darker palette. The RM, a low-cut reinterpretation of the original Air Jordan 4, mixes legacy design elements with updated construction to offer something fresh while keeping familiar roots intact.
The “Driveway Black” features an upper constructed primarily of soft black suede, matched with mesh panels and reinforced by TPU overlays. This combination of materials delivers a layered texture across the shoe while also increasing durability and breathability. Subtle differences in finish between the suede, mesh, and TPU contribute to a tonal variation that feels dynamic even without a broad color range. The silhouette maintains the design’s functionality while embracing a refined, pared-down approach.


Touches of red provide a visual break from the monochrome base. The tongue sports a red Jumpman logo, positioned against the dark upper for maximum contrast. Around the heel, the traditional Nike Air branding returns in bright red, replacing the custom “Bike Air” found on Sylvester’s version. The inclusion of red in just a few select places gives the shoe enough punch without overwhelming its otherwise muted character.
The midsole continues the visual balance, pairing white sidewalls with a black layer at the base. A visible Air unit is integrated into the heel for impact protection and added comfort. This element, long associated with the Air Jordan 4 series, preserves the performance credibility of the silhouette. Functionality hasn’t been sacrificed for style – rubber outsoles and structured overlays ensure the shoe is suited for everyday wear.


While the original Air Jordan 4 debuted in 1989 and remains one of the most recognizable sneakers in the Jordan Brand archive, the RM edition introduces a more modern silhouette. The lowered profile gives it a sport-lifestyle hybrid look, keeping it accessible across both athletic and streetwear contexts.
The “Driveway Black” release follows the success of the “Driveway Grey” edition, which gained traction thanks to Sylvester’s influence and a design that resonated with the biking and sneaker communities alike. While the earlier pair included custom touches tied to Sylvester’s story, this new edition is a general release that still maintains a connection through shared design language. The use of the white midsole and overall layout draws parallels between the two pairs, but the “Driveway Black” stands on its own with the use of red and its classic heel branding.


Additional details include a fleece-lined collar in grey, adding a layer of comfort to the inner construction. This subtle touch enhances the wearability of the RM model while softening the edges of the suede-heavy upper. Combined with the lightweight mesh and secure structure of the TPU cage, the shoe provides support and breathability, keeping it practical for everyday use.
The Air Jordan 4 RM Driveway Black is scheduled to release in Spring 2025 at a retail price of $160 USD. It will be available on Nike.com and at select Jordan Brand retailers.
