Luxury house Chanel unveiled its Spring Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection, drawing inspiration from the depth and range of Gabrielle Chanel’s color sensibility. Known for revolutionizing fashion through her radical use of black, Gabrielle Chanel also mastered the art of color across the spectrum, from soft pastels to vivid, daring hues. This collection builds upon that legacy, exploring the infinite possibilities of color and craftsmanship while remaining rooted in the codes of the House.
Set in the Nave of the Grand Palais, scenographer Willo Perron designed the runway in the shape of a double C, evoking infinity and reflecting the perpetual excellence of Haute Couture. The set also nods to a chromatic circle, representing the theme of color progression central to the collection. The show’s soundtrack, composed by Gustave Rudman and curated by Michel Gaubert, also amplified the experience, guiding the audience through the day-to-night progression that inspired the designs.
The collection follows a visual journey through a day, beginning with the hues of dawn and progressing into the rich tones of twilight. Early looks include a pajama-style ensemble crafted from dawn-hued silk crêpe and a sunshine yellow tweed suit that radiates warmth. A lilac tweed dress with box pleats introduces a softer tone, while a white-and-black tweed suit with hand-painted and embroidered accents balances modernity with tradition.
As the narrative unfolds, bold contrasts emerge: an orange-pink coat layered over a purple jacquard dress and a mimosa yellow dress suit accented with pale pink flounces bring a playful sophistication. Accessories such as strappy shoes, range in shades from sky blue to cream.
Chanel’s craftsmanship shines in every detail, with hallmark traits elevated to new heights. Tweeds are reimagined with multicolored braids, graphic lines, and embroidered floral accents. Linings in unexpected colors – bronze, royal blue, and green – contrast beautifully with the outer layers, creating hidden details that evoke joy and surprise. Buttons crafted from rock crystal, metal, and rhinestones take on celestial shapes, including moons and suns, while black velvet belts adorned with stars and camellias recall the House’s affinity for iconic motifs.
The dresses alternate between long and short forms, or sometimes combine the two in unexpected ways. The lightness of fabrics such as chiffon, satin, and embroidered lace allows for dynamic proportions and ethereal movement. Trompe l’oeil techniques add depth and illusion, with painted lace and embroidered chiffon mimicking tweed textures. Standout pieces include a shirt dress with a pleated plastron in pale yellow double satin, a sky-blue cape with puffed sleeves, and a sequined white dress paired with a champagne tweed coat.
The footwear aligns perfectly with the collection’s theme of chromatic progression. Strappy heels and flats come in pastel tones, including sky blue and violet, as well as classic white and cream. These subtle details anchor each look, tying together the day-to-night narrative.
Accessories play an integral role in enhancing the collection’s storytelling. Scarves, belts, and jewelry incorporate celestial motifs like suns and moons, while camellias appear as recurring elements across belts and brooches.
The Spring-Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection marks the 110th anniversary of CHANEL Haute Couture, offering the Creation Studio the freedom to push its artistic boundaries.
