Carrie Bradshaw and her friends are ready for a sweltering summer in Manhattan. The trailer for And Just Like That season three dropped on Tuesday night, teasing the return of the Sex and the City spin-off with signature chaos, couture, and cocktail chatter. But amid all the excitement, one question took over the conversation: where is Samantha?

Despite the return of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, fans immediately took to X after watching the three-minute trailer to ask the same thing. “Where is Samantha?” one viewer posted, echoing thousands. Others pleaded for her reappearance: “Is Samantha Jones showing up in season 3?!”
It’s a question that’s lingered since the series launched in December 2021, eleven years after Sex and the City 2 and nearly two decades after the original HBO series ended. Kim Cattrall’s iconic character, Samantha Jones, made a brief phone cameo in season two, calling Carrie from London to politely bow out of a dinner party. But despite that nostalgic nod, fans holding out hope for a bigger return may be disappointed.
Cattrall has repeatedly shut down comeback rumors. When speculation spiked again last year following a report from Elle, Cattrall swiftly responded with a tweet of her own: “Aw that’s so kind but I’m not.” And she’s been busy. In 2023, the actress starred in Netflix’s Glamorous and appeared in About My Father alongside Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert De Niro.
So where does that leave And Just Like That without Samantha? Season three seems ready to lean into its new direction. The trailer hints at plenty of fresh drama: Charlotte barges in on her daughter Lily mid-make-out, Miranda returns to the dating scene after her breakup with Che, and Carrie considers pivoting to “romantasy” writing. We also get a glimpse of Aidan, suggesting there might be another chapter for him and Carrie after their rekindled-but-paused romance.
The new season will continue to expand its ensemble with Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley and Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, both of whom have grown into central figures of the show. While they’ll never replace Samantha, they bring new energy and perspectives that reflect the show’s updated tone, one more grounded in midlife transitions and reinvention.
And Just Like That season three premieres on 29 May 2025, with 12 episodes releasing weekly on Sky Showtime. The season finale is set to air on 14 August. While a Samantha surprise remains unlikely, fans can still expect a summer filled with big decisions, big emotions, and, as always, fabulous shoes.
