At Milan Design Week 2025, Moleskine invites visitors to reconnect with the power of handwriting through an immersive exhibition titled Unleash Your Genius. Staged at BASE Milano from April 7 to 13, the installation is a celebration of imagination, and the potential of sustainable design. At its core lies a monumental brain sculpture made entirely from Moleskine paper, surrounded by open notebooks awaiting sketches, stories, and spontaneous thoughts, creating a space where creativity is personal, and unfiltered.

The exhibition also unfolds through hands-on workshops led by artists and calligraphers, offering visitors the chance to engage with the physicality of handwriting in a world increasingly dominated by digital input. This tactile return to pen and paper is framed not as nostalgia, but as a tool for mental clarity and self-expression. The brand positions handwriting as a form of mental ecology, a way of thinking through making, and a gesture that can bring balance and insight.

Beyond the act of writing, Unleash Your Genius highlights sustainability as a core theme. Through a partnership with MADE IN CARCERE, Moleskine transforms unsold planners into foldable paper shoppers, crafted by incarcerated women trained in artisanal skills. Proceeds from sales at the on-site pop-up go directly toward supporting this social enterprise, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to ethical production and circular economy.

In another innovative reuse project, Moleskine collaborates with Dow Polyurethanes and TECMAC to upcycle planner covers into flooring tiles. Meanwhile, master papermaker Sandro Tiberi demonstrates the art of paper recycling using a mobile paper mill, turning old notebooks into ivory-hued wallpaper. These initiatives are part of Italy’s nationwide Comieco Paper Week, reflecting Moleskine’s integrated approach to creative sustainability at both local and global levels.

The brand also explores how design can adapt through modularity and play. In collaboration with Quadra, Moleskine presents a line of furnishings built around the notebook as a structural unit, furniture pieces that shift in form depending on how notebooks are arranged. From adjustable stools to reconfigurable accessories, these designs echo the company’s belief in flexible, enduring forms that evolve with their users.

Finally, a curated display of works from the Moleskine Foundation Collection anchors the exhibition in a global creative dialogue. Pieces by artists including Hailu Kifle, Ava Chowdhury-Turner, and Seven Hills reflect a rich spectrum of voices, each using the notebook as both canvas and concept. The show champions a simple idea, creativity is our most renewable resource.
