Nike continues its revival of early 2000s footwear with the return of the Shox Ride 2 in a new Metallic Platinum edition, scheduled for release on April 24, 2025. This iteration retains the technical blueprint of the original, while introducing a layered upper and aged finish that leans into contemporary styling with visible nods to its Y2K origins.
The shoe features a combination of synthetic leather and mesh in a White, Metallic Platinum, Black, and Flat Gold palette. A speckled, distressed pattern appears across the midfoot and toe area, giving the sneaker a worn-in aesthetic. These markings are paired with chrome-like silver overlays, adding contrast to the white mesh base. Subtle black accents spread through the upper, giving the design texture without overwhelming its overall structure.

Underfoot, the Shox Ride 2 sticks to its signature build. Four metallic silver columns sit beneath the heel, designed to compress and rebound with each step. These pillars are paired with a visible Max Air unit at the forefoot, enhancing cushioning for wearers who prioritize comfort and responsiveness. The midsole also includes scuffed paint details, which add to the aged visual treatment seen throughout the shoe.
Embroidered Swooshes appear on the lateral sidewalls, while Shox branding lands on the tongue and heel. The leather tongue and laces are dressed in white, keeping the front of the shoe clean despite the heavier graphic treatments elsewhere. A semi-translucent outsole with a soft pink tint finishes the sneaker, outfitted with textured circular pods for grip and stability on varied surfaces.

This release follows a string of recent Shox Ride 2 drops that include a brown leather version and a stealthy “Black Phantom” colorway. Originally reintroduced via a Supreme collaboration in 2022, the model has since returned in several limited editions, and this “Metallic Platinum” version continues that run with its distinctive design language and unusual detailing.
Nike lists the official SKU as IB8174-100, and retail pricing is set at $180 USD. The Shox Ride 2 “Metallic Platinum” will be available through Nike.com and select Nike Sportswear retailers starting April 24. With its sculpted profile, spring-based heel system, and unique finishes, the model remains one of the most unconventional silhouettes in Nike’s catalog.
